Varcoe Woodcraft

Varcoe Woodcraft

I am a craftsman and sculptor who makes beautiful things from wood. Using hand tools and traditional methods I create bowls, utensils and art pieces. Each thing I make is unique and encapsulates my deep love for wood, with all its tactility and versatility. I often use recycled or salvaged timber, which tells its own story and adds a context and history to each piece. Wood carving is a primal, ancient craft, and there is such power in creating something that didn't exist a matter of hours before.

As well as creating my own art I run wood carving workshops for adults of all abilities. I have also been instrumental in setting up the OPAL play initiative at Torridon Primary School, creating salvaged wood play equipment and teaching volunteer woodworking classes.
