Aline Kandalaft and her daughter Abla are Lebanese visual artists and painters who collaborate on pieces. They combine symbolism and motifs from Lebanon, Palestine and the wider Arab world with bold, vibrant colours and geometric patterns that evoke landscapes, daily rituals and intergenerational memory. Abla focuses more specifically on print and calligraphy.
Working primarily with saturated colours and striking, energetic forms, inspired by the likes of French artist Augustin Herbin or Chicago-based Tom Fredo, Aline creates paintings that draw on elements of abstract art, cubism and pop art, as well as as well traditional Arab designs to celebrate a joyful sense of belonging and cultural connection.
